Early Life

Dave was born on June 2, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri. Soon after he came into the world, Dave’s parents moved to South America, and he had the opportunity to grow up in Guatemala and Peru. As a result, he speaks fluent Spanish and has a great respect for the Latin culture.

Education and Work Experience

Dave earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Duke University before moving on to the University of Pittsburgh, where he received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Marketing.

From 1979 to 1984, Dave worked as a Strategic Planner and Operations Manager for U.S. Steel and National Steel.  He relocated to Florida in 1984 and worked as a Commercial Realtor for Grubb & Ellis.  In 1988, he opened his own real estate office, Centerpointe Realty, in Dunedin.

Serving Dunedin

Dave’s service to the city began when he was elected to the Dunedin City Commission in 2003.  He served two terms as a commissioner, and in 2009, he was elected Mayor and re-elected Mayor in 2012.

Dave was selected as a senior to sit on the Honor Committee that oversees the tradition of no lying, stealing or cheating at school. It is a time honored institution that centers around character and ethics. He continued his community service while in college, and quickly established himself as a leader in Dunedin more than 25 years ago.

During Dave’s tenure with the City of Dunedin, he has started the Youth Advisory Council, Social Services Committee and the Public Safety Committee. In addition, Dave led the effort on recognizing returning Veterans and establishing Purple Heart Park and Purple Heart City.

Throughout his years in Dunedin, Dave has been dedicated to service, and he’s been involved with the following committees and organizations:

  • Dunedin Chamber of Commerce – current member and Past Chairman of the Board-
  • Former School Board Liaison for City Commission
  • Former Scottish Games Committee Liaison for City Commission
  • Current Toronto Blue Jays Liaison for City Commission
  • Charter Member of Friends of the Island Parks
  • Member of the Dunedin Historical Society
  • Member of the Friends of the Dunedin Library
  • Member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church

Hobbies and Interests

Dave coached for Dunedin National Little League (now Greater Dunedin Little League) for over 14 years. He coached the 1995 Dunedin National Senior Team to a World Series win, and also led the 2001 Dunedin Big League Team to a third-place finish in World Series play.

Nowadays, you’ll find Dave behind the plate. Since 2006, he has served as an umpire for the local little league and the Southern Umpires Association.

Dave is an avid sports fan. In addition to his love for local athletics, he’s a huge fan of the Duke Blue Devils, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Tampa Bay Rays.

Dave has been married to his wife, Becky, for ten years. He has a son, Ryan Stone (Miami), a  daughter, Emily Stone (Washington, DC), and 4 four-legged children— Nicki, Bowser, Barney and Bailey.

Much of the rest of Dave’s family— including his father, Jim Eggers— also reside in the Tampa Bay Area.
