Dave Eggers is proud to announce his latest endorsements for Pinellas County Commission including the Tampa Bay Times, Tampa Tribune and Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualteri

Tampa Bay Times Endorsment Eggers

Times recommends: 2 new faces for Pinellas Commission

Seven Republicans seek to succeed retiring Commissioner Susan Latvala in District 4, which includes Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Oldsmar and East Lake. Three candidates are in the top tier of fundraising and name recognition. The edge goes to Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers for his knowledge of the issues, local government background and leadership skills.

Eggers, 57, was a Dunedin commissioner for six years before being elected mayor in 2009. He runs a commercial real estate business and is known for his optimism, consensus-building and conservative spending. Eggers worked persistently to keep the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin for spring training. With Safety Harbor’s mayor, he formed a group of North Pinellas mayors and city managers to look for ways to consolidate services and collaborate on projects. In 2011 Eggers voted against keeping fluoride in the city’s drinking water — a vote he now calls “a mistake and a regret on my part” and one he has learned from. Eggers supports improved mass transit, new strategies for recruiting businesses and more effective programs for reducing homelessness.

The winner of this race faces one Democrat and two no-party candidates in November. With his strong business background and municipal experience, Eggers could provide a new perspective on the County Commission.

In the Republican primary for Pinellas County Commission District 4, the Tampa Bay Times recommends Dave Eggers.

TBO Dave Eggers

Tribune Endorsements: Hooper, Eggers, Morroni for Pinellas County Commission Republican Party

A crowded field of Republican candidates is running to replace Susan Latvala, who is not seeking re-election to the north Pinellas County district.

The winner will face Democrat Mark Weinkrantz and two candidates with no party affiliation in the November general election. Only registered Republicans who live in the district can cast ballots.

Dave Eggers, 57, worked as a strategic planner for a major corporation and as a commercial Realtor before opening his own real estate office. He has served as a Dunedin city commissioner and as Dunedin mayor for two terms. He is a proponent of the Greenlight transit initiative and wants to spur economic development in the county. He says he brings a business perspective to the job.

There are several strong candidates, and a major issue dividing the field. …Eggers has served Dunedin well as its mayor, has also served on county transportation and planning boards, and has a solid command of the issues.

We think Eggers is better positioned to hit the ground running and will support a transit initiative important to the county’s future.

For District 4 in the Pinellas County Commission Republican primary, the Tribune recommends Dave Eggers.
